Mary

Mother of Jesus

Mother of Jesus who demonstrated humble obedience to God's call.

Mary, a young Jewish woman from Nazareth, was chosen by God for the unique role of bearing Jesus, the Son of God. Despite the social risk of unexplained pregnancy, Mary responded to the angel Gabriel's announcement with humble acceptance: "Let it be to me according to your word." Her Magnificat (song of praise) reveals deep spiritual insight and knowledge of Scripture. Throughout Jesus's life, Mary witnessed extraordinary events from His birth to His crucifixion, where Jesus entrusted her care to the disciple John. The Gospels portray Mary as a woman of faith who "treasured and pondered" God's works in her heart, becoming a model of obedient discipleship and trust in God's often mysterious purposes.
