Abraham
Father of Faith
Father of faith and patriarch of Israel, called by God to leave his homeland and follow God's promise.
Abraham, originally named Abram, was called by God to leave his homeland of Ur and journey to the land of Canaan. Through a covenant relationship, God promised to make Abraham's descendants into a great nation through which all peoples would be blessed. Despite being childless into old age, Abraham trusted God's promise, eventually fathering Isaac with his wife Sarah. His willingness to sacrifice Isaac demonstrated his complete faith in God, earning him the title "Father of Faith" and establishing him as the patriarch of Israel and an important figure in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
